Laboratory of Biotechnology
Subject: Conservation of the gene pool of rare and useful Siberian plants by the methods of biotechnology.
Main lines of research:
- Development of the methods of ‘in vitro’ introduction of rare Siberian species in need of conservation;
- Micropropagation of useful plant species (ornamental, medicinal, food, and others) for subsequent introduction and breeding acceleration;
- Creation and maintenance of the collection of ‘in vitro’ cultures for conservation of the gene pool of rare and useful Siberian plants.
A morphogenetic potential and peculiarities of regeneration of the plant species included in the Red Data Book of Russia (Iris potaninii, I. humilis, Hemerocallis middendorfii, and H. lilio-asphodelus) have been studied. The methods of mass micropropagation of the most valuable ornamental and food plants have been developed.
