Laboratory of the Introduction of Medicinal, Spicy and Aromatic Plants
Subject: Population-ontogenetic fundamentals of the introduction of medicinal, spicy and aromatic plants.
Objects of study: Species of the genera Allium, Hypericum, Erysimum, Potentilla, Polemonium, Primula, Pulmonaria, Dracocephalum, Ziziphora, Schizonepeta and others.
Main lines of the activity:
- Study of variation and adaptive possibilities of species in the wild and in cultivation; their ontogenesis and structure of populations, ways of self-preservation and abundance regulation; assessment of the current status of populations in the wild;
- Development and propagation of cultivar-populations of Siberian promising medicinal plants.
A collection of the most important medicinal, spicy and aromatic plants covering more than 300 species has been created. Three cultivars of Hypericum perforatum L., Helichrysum arenarium (L.) Moench and Thymus serpyllum L. have been developed. Life forms, population status and types of strategies of the Siberian species of the genera Allium and Polemonium caeruleum have been studied. Mechanisms of multilevel hereditary variation of histons rich in lysine have been determined in 50 species of 5 Fabaceae genera. The most productive populations have been singled out on the basis of intraspecific variation of Erysimum cheiranthoides and Polemonium caeruleum individuals.
